Course Overview

Red Cross Babysitting prepares youth to recognize and prevent unsafe situations, make safe choices, and care for children and babies. The course covers child development stages, age-appropriate care strategies, basic first aid skills, and how to promote yourself as a babysitter.

What You Will Learn

Be responsible and demonstrate leadership while caring for children
Make good decisions and manage difficult behaviours
Recognize children’s developmental stages and apply age-appropriate care strategies
Feed, diaper, dress, and play with children and babies
Recognize and prevent unsafe situations and promote safe behaviours
Apply basic first aid skills appropriate to babysitting
Promote yourself as a babysitter and run the business side of babysitting

To receive certification, participants must attend and participate in all course components.

Participants under 18 years of age require a parent or guardian signature at registration. Government-issued photo identification or proof of age may be required at sign-in. Participants must be adequately prepared to participate in the language of instruction for required course elements.
