Course Overview

Course Overview

Red Cross First Aid and CPR Instructor is a blended pathway that certifies candidates to teach Canadian Red Cross First Aid and CPR courses. Because candidates are expected to already have strong first aid and CPR technical skills, this program focuses on how to teach, facilitate, and evaluate skills in a learner-centred classroom.

The pathway has five steps: Skills Evaluation, Fundamentals of Instruction, Discipline-Specific Classroom training, Supervised Teaching Experience, and Certification. The training portion before the Teaching Experience totals approximately 37 hours and includes online learning, in-class Fundamentals of Instruction, and in-class Discipline-Specific training.

Teaching Experience is completed after the in-class training. The timing of Teaching Experience completion varies based on scheduling and the candidate’s progress through supervised teaching sessions.
