Course Overview

St. John Ambulance Intermediate (Standard) First Aid is a comprehensive course designed to meet provincial workplace first aid regulations across Canada. The course is designed to comply with the Canadian Standards Association CSA Z1210-17 standard for Intermediate First Aid.

The course builds practical first aid decision-making for real emergencies, with topics including emergency scene management, CPR, wound care, fractures, medical emergencies, and mental health awareness.

The course is generally delivered over two days. CPR options include Level A, Level C, and BLS. Choose the CPR level required by your workplace or professional setting when registering.

What You Will Learn

Topics Covered

Manage an emergency scene and make safe, organized response decisions
Provide CPR and respond to cardiac emergencies at the chosen CPR level
Provide first aid for bleeding and wounds, including basic wound care principles
Recognize and respond to shock and unconsciousness
Recognize and respond to fractures and other musculoskeletal injuries
Recognize and respond to head and spinal injuries
Identify and respond to common medical emergencies
Apply awareness-level approaches for mental health considerations as covered in the program
Use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

Completion Requirements

To receive certification, participants must: Attend and participate in 100% of the course Successfully complete the practical skills activities and required evaluations

Certification

Upon successful completion, participants receive a St. John Ambulance Standard First Aid certification that is valid for 3 years.
