Course Overview

Course Overview

Heart and Stroke Basic Life Support (BLS) is the foundational resuscitation course in Canada for healthcare professionals, emergency medical providers, and trained first responders. It teaches single-rescuer and team basic life support skills for use in pre-hospital and in-facility settings, with a strong focus on high-quality CPR and team dynamics.

This Renewal Blended option is designed for current BLS certificate holders who want a shorter in-class session. Most of the theory is completed online at the participant’s own pace, followed by an in-person skills review and testing session of approximately 1.5 hours.

The course covers updated content from the most recent Heart and Stroke guidelines, including high-quality CPR, ventilations, AED use, team dynamics, the role of the CPR coach, maternal cardiac arrest, anaphylaxis, drowning, heart attack and stroke recognition, and other life-threatening emergencies.
