Course Overview

Detection and Control of Flammable Substances is an Energy Safety Canada certified course for workers who may work in or near environments where flammable gases or vapours are present, or who use gas monitoring equipment as part of their duties.

This in-person course combines classroom theory with practical exercises to help participants recognize flammable substance hazards, understand explosive ranges (LEL and UEL), apply safe work precautions, and use catalytic detection equipment.

Participants also complete practical skills using catalytic detection equipment in simulated workplace scenarios. The course follows Energy Safety Canada certification requirements.

Care for, prepare, and bump-test combustible gas monitors
Develop sampling strategies and accurately interpret monitor readings
Apply effective control methods for high combustible gas readings

Completion Requirements

To receive certification, participants must: Attend and participate in all course components Pass the written exam with a minimum score of 70% Successfully demonstrate the required practical skills components

Certification

Upon successful completion, participants receive an Energy Safety Canada Certificate of Completion that is valid for 3 years.

Government-issued photo identification is required at sign-in. Participants must be adequately prepared to participate in the language of instruction for required course elements, including safety activities and the exam.
